Gas Price Increases & How we can help reduce the impact on your business

Tuesday 10th May 2011

Recent events in the Middle East and the disaster in Japan have led to the highest oil prices for the last two years.  Other uncertainties across the world economy have driven up both oil and gas & electricity prices in the UK.

Energy costs can be a key element of many businesses expenditure and therefore has a big impact on their bottom line. Most UK businesses have already felt the pinch of rising gas and electricity prices and considers this to be an uncontrollable overhead. This however is not the case!

Time & resource issues mean many businesses leave the negotiation of their gas & electricity contracts to the last minute, this leaves only a very small window of opportunity to make savings. By reviewing your energy contracts earlier you are more likely to reduce the impact of rising energy costs.

It is vital to understand your contract renewal date and what notice period you must serve in order to take advantage of savings that are available in the market.

This is just one example of how the business gas can help and advise you on elements of your contract to achieve a better deal for your business.

Guide to managing your business gas renewal

Tuesday, 24th August, 2010

1) Understand your contract. When agreeing a new business gas contract, ask what the required notice period will be. Make a note of this period along with your business gas renewal date and make sure you start searching for a new deal before it comes up.
2) Have recent business gas bills to hand so that you can supply accurate usage details along with the reference numbers of your meters (MPRN for gas) when looking for cheaper business gas.
3) Go online to arrange a call from a commercial energy broker like business gas to discuss your needs.
4) Once you have your quotes, decide whether to switch or not
5) If you decide to switch, you will need to give termination notice to your current business gas supplier. Make sure you get written confirmation they have accepted this termination notice.
6.) There will be no interruption of supply while the switch is being processed.

At business gas we can manage all of the above for you, so you can get on with managing your business with the peace of mind that you are getting the best deal.

Keywords to understand for your business gas renewal

Monday, 7th May 2011

Assumptive Renewals & Contract Rollovers – Most business gas contracts have within their terms and conditions some form of automatic renewal clause. This allows the supplier to renew your contract for a further 12 months without directly speaking to you or directly re-negotiating your rates.

Rollover –this clause allows the supplier to roll (Extend) your business gas contract into an extended period, at the same contract prices as your previous year’s contract.

Assumptive Renewals – In much the same ways the insurance industry works, prior to the end of your current business gas contract, you will be sent a contract renewal, outlining the new charges for the coming year or years. Failure to respond to this letter will result in the supplier assuming you are happy with the new terms and your contract will be automatically renewed for a further 12.
